There's something tugging on your heart and you know you need to take action. Every cell lights up in your body. The mere thought of going after what's whispering (or yelling) your name and your shoulders relax, you sit a little taller, your heart opens just that little bit wider.
Your knees are wobbly. Your belly flutters with butterflies, and your mind won't stop racing. What if... what if... what if...
Making the big decisions doesn't come easily. I suppose that's the way it should be, right? Otherwise we'd all gracefully gallop towards our biggest dreams and desires. But to experience the gift of living the kind of life that we daydream about, you have to come face to face with your own limitations - and bust right through them.
That right there, is called courage.
My mentor, Kate Courageous, states it beautifully, "Courage isn’t something you have; it’s what you choose to practice."
That brings me back to right here, right now.
You have a vision for your life - and it doesn't matter whether or not you've narrowed in on that vision. Maybe you have, and you've mapped out your 10-year plan and exactly what you're going to do to get you from HERE to THERE. Or maybe you simply have a vague idea of what it is you want to create in the world. Or it might just be that you know how you want to feel when you get wherever it is that you're going - really. fucking. incredible.
Or maybe when you allow your mind to quiet, there's a knowing in the depths of your heart that how you're feeling and how you're living right now, just isn't what you want. You want to create radical change in your life, but starting? Where? How?
All roads lead back to courage.
What if I'm not cut out for this? What if I'm not strong enough? Extroverted enough? Smart enough? Good enough?
What would your most courageous self do?
What if I'm not worthy enough?
If not you, then who?
What if I fail? What if everyone judges me?
What happens if you don't try? If you choose to stay exactly where you are?
I can't do that. I'm not capable.
Where's the proof?
When you feel the pull towards something different in your life, and divinely wrapped opportunities are coming your way, often we respond with: I know this is important. I'll take action and follow my dreams... but first, I have to/ I need/ I want...
How would your life be different if you chose courage over resistance?
Know that at some point, everyone - and I mean everyone - has come up against their own resistance, doubts, insecurities, and setbacks. I can guarantee you that every disempowering, self-deflating you've ever thought about yourself, I've also felt about myself. You are not alone - far from it. You and I - we're made from the same piece of fabric.
Examine the limitations that you've placed around you, the resistance that keeps holding you back, the distractions that keep you exactly where you are, and the excuses for why you just haven't started yet... are you going to let that stop you from chasing the big stuff?
Your thoughts aren't shaping you, it's how you're responding to them that is. Day-by-day, moment-to-moment, the choice is yours.
In the comments, I'd love to hear all about what lights you up, and the big ideas and dreams that are floating around in your mind, just waiting to be brought forth - share 'em, declare 'em, bring them into form.
