You know that feeling when you first meet someone and you immediately feel welcomed by their presence? Like you've official found one of your 'people', and it all just... clicks? That moment when you become completely captivated by their gorgeous spirit and even more generous heart?
That's Kayla, in a nutshell.
I remember some time ago feeling a little 'connection-starved' - having gone through a period of massive introspection and retreat, and desperately needing to connect and have a good soul chat with inspired people.
Hello #createlounge - the first time I closed down my laptop after diving into Kayla's twitter chat (if you don't know what I'm talking about here - seriously, you MUST check it out), I felt lighter. More connected. And the level of inspiration? Cranked way up.
It's no wonder Kayla is a total pro at bringing people together and creating rad communities online. She walks her talk - and she's damn passionate about what she does.
I'm absolutely stoked to introduce you to Kayla Hollatz today. Enjoy!
Tell us more about you: who are you and what are you all about? (Your story, your truth)
I help creative entrepreneurs build sustainable, organically grown communities through content that connects. Community is at the heart of everything I do. It led me to start #createlounge, a Twitter chat for creatives that is now expanding into a podcast and book club. It feels so good to live out my purpose while helping others live out theirs.
What does living life on your own terms mean to you?
Living life on my own terms means defining what success looks like for me and taking steps toward that vision every single day.
Share with us a personal challenge that you’ve had to overcome and what limiting beliefs you had to break down along the way.
The biggest challenge I have recently been working through is taking the leap into full-time entrepreneurship. It's something I've been dreaming and planning for, but there's nothing that can quite prepare you for it. I've had to battle a few periods of self-doubt but my cure has been leaning more into my community and support system, giving myself grace, trying new things to show myself that I can do more than I think I can, and lots of hot chocolate.
When life gets hectic and overwhelming, what do you do to feel more grounded and balanced?
My favorite way to feel more balanced is to create something for creation's sake. (Tweet this!) It's really easy to focus all of your creative energy on your business but pursuing a passion project outside of your business can really help you tap into different parts of your creativity and alleviate some of that pressure we put on ourselves to hustle at all times.
When it comes to creating change in your life, what does putting it into action look like for you? (And how do you handle when/ if resistance pops up?)
It usually depends on the situation, but normally I work through the change by journaling heavily, talking with loved ones who understand, taking some time for myself, and tapping into the power of prayer. A healthy blend of all of those things really helps me in periods of transition.
What are the top two nuggets of wisdom or advice you would give to someone?
Don't compare where you are to where someone else is.
Don't let where you've been limiting you from working toward where you want to go.
Your feet can take you farther than you think. (Tweet this!)
Be willing to try new things and make genuine connections with the people you meet along the way.
What is one quote that really resonates with you, or that you choose to live life by?
It's so hard to choose one but lately my motto has been "Done is better than perfect." It's a great reminder to continue to launch your heart's work without fear that its first revision needs to be absolutely perfect. Everything can be improved on over time.
I can’t go a day without… Twitter. Namely, my #createlounge community.
Following the trail of my curiosities means… Embracing creative exploration.
When I feel fear… I try to remind myself that I have this purpose for a reason and that I am worthy of it.
I feel joyful when… I see my community and its members flourishing, both online and offline.
I’m most grateful for… my creative spirit which leads me to do crazy but beautiful things.
